Each parent will be responsible for the financial support of any minor children (18 or younger). The amount of support is determined by the joint income of the parties, the number of minor children of the marriage and the Child Support Guidelines.

Equitable Distribution

Florida law follows the concept of "Equitable Distribution", which requires an equitable division of all marital assets and liabilities.  Equitable does not mean equal, but in most instances the distribution is on an equal basis.

Any assets obtained by either party during the marriage are considered to be marital and therefore subject to an equitable distribution, as long as these assets are related to the marriage and not as a result of a gift or inheritance to one of the parties.

Liabilities, incurred by either party during the marriage,  are considered to be marital and therefore subject to equitable distribution as well.
